Civic Organizations
Here are some examples of local civic groups getting involved with young children:
• Rotary International has joined with the Dolly Parton Foundation to spread the Imagination Library concept across the nation. The Imagination Library will provide every child 0-5 years of age a book every month until they turn 5. Local Rotary clubs have joined with the Early Learning Coalitions to bring this project to our area. Check back here for more information as this partnership develops, or click here for more information.
• Florida District of Kiwanis International has stepped forward on two occasions to help the Department of Health raise the percentage of infants under 2 years old who have been fully immunized. Clubs around the state have contributred to the percentage of infants under 2 with all their shots passing 85 percent in '05 and heading for over 90 percent. When infant immunizations began to slip, the Department of Health called on Kiwanis and Dr. Wil Blechman of Miami, former president of Kiwanis International, for help.
